Azhari Aiyub was born and raised in Banda Aceh. In 2003, he won first prize in a short story competition by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2005, he received Free Word Award from Poets of All Nation (PAN), The Netherlands. His short story collection, Perempuan Pala (published by AKY, 2004 and Mojok, 2015) has been translated into English and French. His other short story collection, The Garden of Delights & Other Tales, was published by Lontar in 2015. In 2018, his novel, Kura-kura Berjanggut (Banana, 2018), received
Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa literary award in prose category. His works have been translated into English, French, Dutch, German, and Swedish.
JILF is an annual international literary festival initiated by the Literary Committee of Jakarta Arts Council (JAC). Just as JAC was built and nurtured by artists and for arts, JILF was founded by writers for the sake of literature and book industry.
