Zen Hae


Zen Hae wrote short stories, essays, poems, and literary criticisms. His works include a short story collection, Rumah Kawin (2004) and a poetry collection Paus Merah Jambu (2007). The last one received Best Literary Work of 2007 from Tempo magazine. His latest book is a short story collection in three languages (Indonesian, German, and English) The Red Bowl and Other Stories (2015). He became co-editor for two editions of The Lontar Anthology of Indonesian Short Stories and Antologi Cerpen Indonesia (both published by Lontar Foundation, 2017). He is also a co-editor for the publishing of the second of BTW Book by Lontar Foundation in accordance to London Book Fair 2019.

Zen has also become a member for the Literary Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council (2006-2012). In 2012, he joined Komunitas Salihara and since 2018, he became the program curator for Ideas in the collective. In 2017, he became writer-in-residence in Prague and Český Krumlov, Czech Republic, by the support of the National Book Committee, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, to write a novel on pencak silat and the revolution in Jakarta and its surroundings. His next book is an anthology of poetry criticism titled Puisi dan Kemahiran that will be published by Marjin Kiri.
